Hull City vs Chelsea preview

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright In the forests of the Premiership.

If you were a Hull City fan, this is probably what you’d be singing currently. Phil Brown’s promoted boys are third in the Premiership currently, and have won their last four games in the league. Hull have beaten Arsenal, Spurs, Fulham and West Ham- all London clubs, and as they welcome another London club to the KC Stadium, the players are optimistic that they can produce another upset. Forward Geovanni has gone so far as to warn Luis Felipe Scolari of another defeat. Now I’m not sure how kindly big Phil will take to that comment, but it certainly adds some more fun, excitement and tension to this game.

Chelsea had their 86 run streak at home halted by Liverpool on Sunday.  It is a sign of how things have changed- last season they demolished Hull 4-0 at the KC Stadium in the League cup.  Salomon Kalou grabbed a brace, with Sidwell and Scott Sinclair also getting their names on the scoresheet. For tonight’s clash, many Chelsea fans across the world will be satisfied with a 1-0.

The two Michaels- Ballack and Essien continue to remain absentees. Winger Joe Cole is in the squad, but whether he will start or not is a big question. Drogba is reportedly not fit enough to play.

Hull will probably line up in a way similar to the Arsenal game. A defensive formation won’t be begrudged, especially if they come out with a draw, but one can’t help but feel that this is their best chance of beating Chelsea. Mind you, the last time these two met in a league clash with Hull playing the hosts, Chelsea lost 3-0 in 1988.

Hull have recovered well from the 5-0 thrashing Wigan inflicted upon them in August, their only Premiership loss this season. They have the same 6-2-1 record as Chelsea, but have a goal difference of 3 as compared to  Chelsea’s 15. No Hull player is in the top 10 goal scorers list currently.

I’m going for a draw here- a 1-1 with King and Lampard scoring. Chelsea could nick this by the odd goal or two, but I think that the Tigers can hold their own.
