Argentina 5-1 India- Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2008

India’s recent hockey woes continued as they were thrashed 5-1 by Argentina in their second match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. The eight time Olympic gold medallists, who lost 3-4 to New Zealand in their first game, looked hopelessly out of place against the South Americans, whose pace was too hot to handle for the young Asian team.

Argentina, who like India, will not be playing in the Olympics in Beijing, had beaten Belgium 2-1 on the opening day. While Martin Sosa did not add to his solitary goal on day one, Tomas Argento Innocente did. Pedro Ibarra scored one , while Facundo Callioni found the back of the net thrice. India’s only goal came from Sandeep Singh, who takes his goal tally in the tournament to four.

Note- There is some confusion regarding the goal scorers. Some news agencies claim Callioni hit a hat trick, while others claim that Callioni scored two and Juan Martin Lopez scored one.
