Flamini will stay at Ashburton Grove- Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he is confident that French midfielder Mathieu Flamini will sign an extension to his contract and will stay with the Gunners.

Flamini has formed an impressive partnership with Spanish youngster Cesc Fabregas in the centre of Arsenal’s midfield this season, keeping the experienced Gilberto out of the starting 11.  12 months ago , there were talks of Flamini buying out the year left on his contract and leaving Arsenal because he was reportedly frustrated with his squad status. However a talk with Wenger kept him at the club, and his performances this season ensure that the Gunners would like to retain his services.

Flamini is reportedly being pursued by Inter Milan and other European clubs, but Wenger is confident that the talks which are already going on will reach a fruitful conclusion.

Flamini arrived at Arsenal as a 20 year old in 2004, and has played at more than one position in the past. He ably filled in for Ashley Cole in the 2005-06 season.
