Champions League quarterfinal draw announced in Nyon

Champions League 2008-09 quarterfinal draw can be found <a href=”http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2009/03/20/uefa-champions-league-2008-09-quarterfinal-draw/”>here</a&gt;.

Arsenal vs Liverpool.

That is the tie that everyone will keep their eyes focussed on. Wenger vs Rafa, Gerrard against Fabregas and Torres vs Adebayor. It is also the first time that two teams from the same country are meeting each other in a Champions League quarterfinal since Milan played Inter in the last eight during the 2004-2005 Champions League.  Curiously enough, the last meeting between two English sides at this stage also featured Arsenal- when the Gunners played Chelsea in the 03-04 quarters.

Chelsea face Fenerbahce while Roma meet Manchester United in a repeat of last year’s quarterfinal. I doubt Spalletti and his boys would have forgotten the 7-1 whipping that they got at Old Trafford last year.

Barcelona take on Schalke.

The winner of Arsenal/Liverpool will take on the winner of Chelsea/ Fenerbahce.

The winner of Schalke/ Barca will take on the winner of Roma/ Man U.

Your predictions ?

This is Schalke’s first ever last eight game in the CL. They had never progressed past the first round, but they did so this year, and bettered it by beating Porto on penalties. Barcelona are looking a bit wobbly in La Liga, and are slowly losing ground to Real Madrid.

Chelsea will not have it easy in Turkey.

Something tells me Liverpool will pull a bunny out of the hat and eliminate Arsenal.

As for United vs Roma, no prizes for guessing who the favourites are.
