Smith and McKenzie break long standing Indian record

The South African duo of Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie have broken Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy’s record opening stand of 413, made against New Zealand in Chennai over four decades ago, in Chittagong. The Proteas are in Bangladesh to play two tests, and this record came in the first innings of the second test.

The Indian pair of Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid came extremely close to breaking this record in the Lahore test a couple of years ago, but had fallen short by three runs.

The South African duo become only the second opening pair to score double centuries in the same innings after Bill Lawry and Bob Simpson did it in the fourth test in Bridgetown in Australia’s 64-65 tour of the Carribean.
