Everton win Women’s Premier League Cup

Their men might have been denied by Joe Cole in the League Cup semifinal, but Everton’s ladies did their club proud by shocking nine time winners Arsenal 1-0 in the final of the 2008 League Cup at the Matchroom Stadium.

Amy Kane scored the only goal of the game. This was Everton’s first ever final since 1999, when they lost 1-3 to the Gunners.

The result was unexpected, for Arsenal were firm favourites to retain the title that they had won by beating Leeds 1-0 last year.

Everton’s manager was Mo Marley, who captained the team in their 1999 final. The goal came from a Jill Scott cross. The victory prevented Arsenal from notching up 59 consecutive wins in all competitions ( starting just after they lost to Charlton Athletic in the final of the 2006 League Cup)

Well done Toffees.  Enjoy yourselves. For Arsenal, you are a great team, but it was not to be your day.
