Tyson Gay wins sprint double at World Championships

American athlete Tyson Gay became the third man in history to complete the sprint double at the World Championships when he won the 200 m in a record time of 19.76 seconds. The 200m victory came four days after he had won the 100m event.  Gay’s time of 19.76 beat Michael Johnson’s 19.79 at the ’95 World Championships.

Only two other athletes have completed the sprint double in the past.

Justin Gatlin -2005 ( Helsinki)

Maurice Greene -1999 ( Sevilla)

Gay achieved the feat in the Japanese city of Osaka. In the 100m he had beat Asafa Powell to claim gold.
