Ian Botham knighted

Ian ” Beefy” Botham will now have a Sir before his name.  Yes folks, England’s best known all rounder of all time is now Sir Ian Terence Botham after being knighted by the queen. The former Somerset allrounder also briefly held the record for most number of test wickets before other bowlers surpassed him. He was also the fastest to achieve the milestones of 1000 runs and 100 wickets, 2000 runs and 200 wickets, and 3000 runs and 300 wickets in test cricket. Read the rest of this entry »

Darren Sammy

This is a quick post about the first international cricketer to emerge from St.Lucia- Darren Julius Garvey Sammy. He took 7-66 in his first test match against England at Old Trafford. Alistair Cook holds the not so fond distinction of being his first test victim. Sammy’s performance is the second best ever by a West Indian on test debut, only behind Alf Valentine.

David Bentley pulls out of England U-21 football team for the European Championships.

David Bentley has chosen to withdraw from the England U-21 squad for the European Championships citing fatigue.

The news has not gone down well with U-21 manager and former Man City boss Stuart Pearce. Because Bentley’s withdrawal has not been caused due to an injury, England cannot replace the Blackburn playmaker with another player.

Bentley is also hoping to be selected for the senior squad for Euro 2008, if England qualify

A mere coincidence ???

As I write this, Africa 11 are battling hard to secure a win against Asia 11. One of the things which I just noticed is the fact that all the four Asian teams are looking for coaches. Yes, all four- Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh 😀
