Newcastle appoint Sam Allardyce as manager

It is official now folks !!! Big Sam has been named as new manager of Newcastle. Sam replaces Glenn Roeder at St. James Park. Newcastle had a pretty disappointing season to say the least, ending on 13th place in the 20 team table. For a club which has no lack of money and performers, that is indeed quite bad.

Given what Sam accomplished at the Reebok stadium, making Bolton an excellent team with the limited resources at hand, he appears to be the ideal man for the job at Tyneside. At Bolton, he would have had to sell Anelka or one of the very valuable players to bring in others. He doesn’t have to do that at Newcastle.

The first thing he must do, is get a few worldclass defenders. Newcastle, with the money and fan support should be a team challenging for Europe, and not floundering in midtable obscurity. Yes they have had their problems with injuries, but it is time that the team stood up and allowed itself to be taken note of.

Owen and Martins are expected to stay, and Allardyce will be hoping to play the pair upfront. Opportunities for that have been few, especially with Owen’s injury problem- remember the one that he got against Sweden in the World Cup ???

Here is wishing Big Sam a happy tenure with Newcastle United…
