Barcelona enter Club World Championship final, beat Club America

Spanish giants and favourites Barcelona booked their spot in the final of the Club World Championship by defeating CONMEBOL champions Club America ( Mex) 4-0 in Yokohama.

The game was dominated by Barcelona and although the Catalans did appear a bit ragged, they weren’t given too much trouble by the Mexicans. CAM spurned some glorious opportunities though. They lacked the cutting edge in front of goal. Nothing like that from Barcelona who established a two goal within half an hour of the game kicking off. Eidur Gudjohnsen slotted one past Ochoa after picking up a fine Iniesta pass, which was set up by a beautiful Ronaldinho back heel. Rafael Marquez put his countrymen two behind when he headed home unmarked from a Deco corner.

Desperate to find a way back in the game, CAM’s coach brought on Cuauhtemoc Blanco for Cabanas. Cuevas and Lopez tried their best to pull one back, but couldn’t. Barca enjoyed good possession and made most of the space available to them in the centre and the wings. The Mexicans sat deep for most of the game, and one could say that they accorded their opponents a little more respect than what they deserved.

Anyway Ronnie added a third and then set up Deco for a stunning fourth to complete the last rites. A subtle Ronnie chip hit the post and CAM were rather relieved when the final whistle blew.

So it will be Barcelona vs Internacional in the final while CAM face Al Ahly in the third place playoff.
