Manchester United vs Liverpool review

It was ” the clash” of this weekend and sadly it did not match up really as a contest. The statistics may give you an impression that the game was a pretty tightly fought encounter, but it wasn’t. United were head and shoulders ahead of their rivals in all aspects of the game and throughly deserved their 2-0 victory.

Dirk Kuyt was allowed a free header close to the half hour mark, and sadly for the Reds, the ball bobbled safely into Van Der Sar’s hands. That was easily their best and last real chance of the afternoon. Paul Scholes, playing in his 500th game for the club, put United ahead when he latched onto a Ryan Giggs cross. Reina got a hand to the shot, but Scholes ensured it found the back of the net on the followup. It was an emotional goal for the midfielder, who also scored on his debut  against Ipswich .

Rio Ferdinand scored the second one, smashing it past Reina after getting away from Riise. Rio seems to be making it a habit to score against Liverpool-remember his last gasp strike last season !!!. United were extremely committed and played well, whereas Liverpool lacked focus, direction, commmitment and a host of other things. IMO the best Liverpool player was Mark Gonzalez and he got substituted early in the second half.

Deserved win for United and Liverpool I am sorry have lots and lots of work to do if they  have to salvage their season.
