India rule the Roost-India vs England-ICC Champions Trophy

Finally it was show time as the real thing began at Jaipur today. With Zimbabwe and Bangladesh sent back home after the qualifying stage was done with, we all anticipated an absolute humdinger at Jaipur to kick off the group stages.
Dravid won the toss and took a rather bold step by putting the opposition in…………..This eventually paid off c’est grace , inspired spells from Irfan Pathan and Munaf Patel in particular who bowled in that suffocating channel. After the dubious lbw of Ian Bell it was all down hill for the Englishmen as they slumped to 55/5. Then the spinners got into the act n Powar picked up 3 too.

Chasing 126 to win , India got off to an absolutely flying start with the Sachin-Sehwag duo smashing Harmison around, until Sehwag edged one to 2nd slip……….the flamboyant batting continued though with Sachin , who seemed 2 have rediscovered his trademark joie de vivre.

Irfan Pathan promoted to no.3 also got into the act smashing the ball to all parts of the ground. However once Pathan was dismissed, the Indians made hard work of the chase losing 6 wickets.

All in all, an excellent outing for team India (except for that hiccup towards the end) which will provide them a great deal of momentum going into their next game against the Windies which again promises to be an exciting prospect. England on the other hand have to regroup quickly as they have to win both their matches to stay alive in the tournament.

Its really hotting up now!Hope to see some more quality cricketing action over the next couple of weeks.

Good start, no doubt (pun intended). Just that the batting hasnt clicked. I again think we’re playing square pegs in round holes. No.3 should be Yuvi’s and if ever there is a need for a person to come in at no.3 and thrash the daylights out of the cricket ball, it should be Dhoni and not Pathan.
