India lose to Australia- ICC Champions Trophy
It will be the first time in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy that we will see no Asian team in the last four. Hosts India, who were the last remaining Asian representatives produced an insipid display as they crashed out to World Champions Australia in Mohali.
Now, among the four semifinalists, the all conquering Aussies are the only ones not to have lifted the trophy yet. Will they add to their vast kitty by winning this one?? Only time will tell…They will have to get past fierce rivals New Zealand in Mohali while the South Africans will play the West Indies in a repeat of the 1998 final.
And I doubt whether we will see packed stadiums in the remaining games. Barring the matches where India have played, the crowd hasn’t been anything much to speak about. This could result in serious loss of revenue for the BCCI, which would definitely not have thought that India would get knocked out in the group stages.
It just all seems to have gone wrong with India. The last few months have seen a slide in fortunes. Chappell needs to reinvigorate this side if they are to pose a challenge in the World Cup. And the way the Champions Trophy has gone so far, I have to say that this World Cup will be a very interesting one to watch.
